for people, planet & purpose

The power of what we say and how we say it can inspire real change.

I’m a writer, campaigner and creative communications specialist, helping purpose-driven people and projects share meaningful messages through powerful storytelling and strategic campaigns.

Find out how we can work together

I live on the blustery north coast of Northern Ireland, and I’m a lover of slow, seasonal living, herbal potions, and growing herbs and flowers.

Woman holding a harvest basket in a vegetable garden — storytelling rooted in seasonal growing and land connection.
Bowl of nasturtiums held over a garden bed — edible flowers and herbal storytelling for sustainable living.
Woman leaning on a farm gate holding dahlias — creative communications inspired by nature, land, and regenerative culture.

Stories of how we live can bring us back to what matters most.

I’m passionate about agroecology, food sovereignty and the power of communications to help shift our world towards something fairer, slower and more sustainable. For over a decade, I’ve worked at the intersection of storytelling, systems change and creative media.

I'm currently Head of Campaigns for UK Youth for Nature, a youth-led network empowering young people to speak up for nature across the UK. Our work centres on biodiversity loss, climate justice and championing land-use and food systems that restore rather than deplete.

Alongside this, I collaborate with independent, purpose-led businesses to bring their values to life through thoughtful communications.

My clients range from sustainable food ventures and zero-waste shops to boutique accommodation, creative events spaces and ethical tastemakers. What unites them is a shared commitment to sustainability, craft, and community — and a desire to tell stories that resonate with care, clarity and impact.

When we make space for real voices and lived experiences, the message becomes a movement.

I've led communications and campaigns across the food, farming and nature sectors, crafting strategy, creating stories and amplifying voices that often go unheard.

Here’s a selection of impactful projects I've developed:

Rethink Food

A campaign tackling the myths and challenges in our current food system — launched to provoke conversation and advocate for a better future from the ground up.

Farming Champions

A year-long programme training 25 regenerative farmers across the UK to share their stories with press and policymakers. Included comms coaching, media placement and strategic messaging.

Website launch

Redesigned an organisation's online presence into a one-stop space for member resources, press kits, storytelling and educational materials — making complex issues more accessible.

Case studies

Interviewed farmers and food producers to write long-form features on climate adaptation, land use, and agroecology — humanising the impact of regenerative practices.

I’ve been writing professionally for over a decade, with work spanning design, food, travel, art, sustainability and cultural identity.

I was previously Fashion Editor at majestic disorder, an independent arts and culture print magazine. From Issue 2 to 8, I led long-form investigative features exploring sustainability, identity and creativity, profiled international artists and musicians, and styled fashion and lifestyle editorials across Morocco, Arizona, New York, London and Brighton.

My writing has appeared in independent publications around the world, including 91 Magazine, Pellicle, New River Press, New Zealand Herald, Refinery29, and more.

I write regularly about interior design through the lens of sustainability, and contribute monthly to 91 Magazine, where I was also subeditor of their recently published book, PLACES to Stay.

I was a finalist in the Mogford Short Story Prize for food writing, and selected as a Young Writer Delegate for the Irish Writers Centre and Irish Literature Festival Dublin.

"Alena has been writing for 91 Magazine for a few years now and she has been a joy to work with. Her writing is exceptional and never needs much editing which makes my job easier. Not only is her writing beautiful, descriptive yet informative, Alena is also reliable and communicative which makes for a great working relationship."
